The transformation

Not a template. A full redesign of your content.

Inkvert reads your document like an editor would. It finds the structure, tightens the writing, pulls out the numbers worth highlighting — then lays out every page like a designer would.

  • Restructured. Chapters, sections and a clear narrative — even from messy notes.
  • Rewritten. Tighter, clearer copy in your voice. Your ideas, nothing invented.
  • Designed. Covers, pull quotes, stat callouts, charts, tables and checklists.
Treat yourself like an employee

The core idea is to separate the income your clients pay from the income you live on. Every payment from a client goes into a business account first. Once a month, you transfer the same fixed amount from that account into your personal account, the way an employer pays a staff member. The money you spend on rent, food and bills then arrives on a predictable schedule, even when the work that produced it arrived in lumps.

This structure changes the question you ask every month. Instead of wondering whether this was a good month, you only need to ask whether the business account can comfortably cover your salary. The business account acts as a buffer, absorbing the highs and lows of incoming payments so that your personal finances stop swinging with them. Over time, that stability reduces the background worry that many freelancers carry without realising how much it costs them.

The change takes discipline at the start, but it removes a constant source of stress. Once the routine runs without your intervention, you stop making small money decisions every week. You no longer decide how much you can afford to spend on a given day, because the answer is always the same: your fixed salary. That consistency is the real goal, more than any single figure you choose.

[00:00:04] HOST (Jen): Okay I think we're live, hi everyone, give it a sec for people to join... great. So welcome to Money Basics for Freelancers. I'm Jen, and with me is Marcus who's been a freelance designer for, what, eleven years?

[00:00:20] MARCUS: Twelve now, yeah. Time flies.

[00:00:24] JEN: Twelve. Okay so let's just dive in. The number one question we got in the sign-up form was basically "how do I stop panicking about irregular income".

[00:00:35] MARCUS: Yeah so, um, the thing that changed everything for me was paying myself a salary. So all client money goes into a business account, and then once a month I pay myself the same fixed amount into my personal account. Like an employee. And the business account is a buffer.

[00:01:02] JEN: How did you pick the amount?

[00:01:05] MARCUS: I looked at my last 12 months, took the total, and I paid myself based on my worst-ish months, not my average. You can raise it later. It's much nicer to raise it than cut it.

[00:01:20] JEN: And the buffer, how big?

[00:01:23] MARCUS: I aim for three months of my salary sitting in the business account. When I started it was like two weeks, honestly. It took about a year to build.

[00:01:38] JEN: Taxes. Everyone's scared of taxes.

[00:01:42] MARCUS: Right, so, rule I use, every invoice that gets paid, I move 30 percent straight into a separate tax account. Don't touch it. Depending on where you live it might be 25 or 35, ask an accountant once and set the percentage. The point is it's automatic so you never "find" money that isn't yours.

[00:02:10] JEN: Okay, so three accounts. Business, tax, personal.

[00:02:14] MARCUS: Yeah, plus I'd say a fourth for, like, slow months and gear. But three is the minimum.

Chapter 1
Pay yourself a fixed salary

Irregular income makes every month feel like a gamble. One simple change, paying yourself the same amount on a fixed schedule, turns unpredictable client payments into a steady personal income you can plan around.

Questions

Good to know

What can I upload?

Almost anything with words in it: PDF, Word (DOCX and DOC), Google Docs (download as Word), PowerPoint, Excel and CSV, EPUB, RTF, OpenDocument, web pages, Markdown, plain text and SRT/VTT transcripts. Up to 100 MB. Keynote and Pages work once exported to PowerPoint, Word or PDF. Scanned PDFs and photos of pages (JPEG, PNG, WebP) work too: we read the text in them.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Upload and preview for free with no sign-up. We create your account from your checkout email so your files are always saved in your dashboard.

Will it change what I wrote?

Inkvert keeps your ideas and facts. It reorganises them, tightens wording and adds structure like headings, summaries and callouts. It never invents claims or data.

Is it really a one-time payment?

Yes. Single assets and launch kits are one-time purchases. Pro is the only subscription, billed monthly or every 3 months, and you can cancel in one click.

Can I edit the result?

Yes. Every purchase includes editable Word (DOCX) or PowerPoint (PPTX) files. Launch kits and Pro also let you change any word in your browser and re-download every format; Pro adds your brand kit (logo, colours, fonts) and cover images.

Can I sell or share what I make?

Absolutely. You own the output and get full commercial rights — sell the ebook, gift it as a lead magnet, or present the deck.

Is my document private?

Your files are encrypted, never used to train AI models, and previews you don't buy are deleted automatically after 30 days.

What if I'm not happy?
